#Planned maintenance schedules these days are a must for all Schools. This type of forward planning ensures that work is carried out during the School Holiday period and not then the classrooms are full.
Ideally external drainage work is carried out every 6 months or yearly depending on the site. March/April is an ideal time to wash away all the winter debris, grit, mud, fallen branches and other items that get flushed into the drainage systems during the winter months. Later on in the year October/November is the ideal time to clear away all the fallen leaves and prepare for winter.

Root infestation and subsequent blocked drains are a common problem in drains near to planted areas. Roots infiltrate drains either through defective pipe joints or cracks, fractures and holes in the pipework. If the pipework is not badly damaged, roots can often be removed using specialist root cutting equipment or high pressure jetting using a specialist root cutting jet head.
If the root infestation is extensive and damage to the pipework is great, the appropriate solution to this would be to line the drain or carry out an excavation and install new pipework. Here at John Wall Drainage service our Operators can advise on the correct action needed.

Over the last few weeks the UK has seen some of its most severe floods with no thanks to Storms Ciara and Dennis, resulting in hundreds of people having to move out of their homes because of the amount of rainfall that has fallen. Our #drains cannot cope with the huge amount of water that comes with these storms.
Over the past few days we have had a large number of calls for #drains to be unblocked or fixed. Heavy rain can have a negative impact on the soil surrounding the #drainage pipes which then puts huge pressure on them as a result. This can cause cracks in the pipework, allowing soil and debris to enter the pipework and cause blockages. Heavy rainfall can also impact on foundations of buildings making them unstable. Excess water should be removed as soon as the rainfall has stopped, allowing the ground to dry.
Here at John Wall Drainage Services, we are specialist’s in drainage unblocking, if you require our services please contact us on #01514951929
Maintaining your #cesspit is essential, not just for your household, but for your local authority too.
A common problem with #cesspits is overflowing, which can cause issues regarding cracked walls and punctures, which may lead to external leaks. Unlike #septic tanks, a cesspit has no rudimentary treatment system, which means that whatever goes in must come out. Under the #public health act and water resources act, your local council authority has a duty to ensure your cesspit is in good working order, routine inspections are commonplace throughout the UK.
Do’s and Don’t regarding #cesspit maintenance
Never lift the lid of your cesspit to check levels, inside there are a whole lot of toxic nasty’s, make sure you have an alarm system fitted within your pit.
#Cesspits are often located in areas where other #sewage solutions are just not practical. Make sure your cesspit is located at least 15 metres away from any outbuilding and not less than 10 metres from any watercourse.
Do not place heavy objects above #manhole covers.
Do not drive over any #cesspit covers, especially old brick built pits.

#Drainage may not be the most exciting topic but their design and maintenance are crucial if hygiene standards are to be maintained.
No.1 priority in every food and beverage processing operation is hygiene, but all too often, focus is on the latest process equipment and on technical developments that can improve efficiency and safety.
Although these things are essential, this distraction can cause some of the more basis hygiene requirements to be overlooked, in particular the maintenance of the drainage.
#Drains are a breeding ground for pathogenic and non-pathogenic micro-organisms. These typically occur either as free form where microbes float in the drain water, or are embedded as biofilm. In each case they create the potential for transferring pathogens, including listeria monocytogenes from the drain to food products. However by establishing an efficient maintenance routine, maintenance engineers can minimise and control the risk of contamination.

These changes apply to thousands of properties with off-line wastewater systems. Many will have already took the necessary steps to ensure that they are in line with new regulations.
