Hygienic drainage in Food and Beverage Industry.

February 3rd, 2020

#Drainage may not be the most exciting topic but their design and maintenance are crucial if hygiene standards are to be maintained.

No.1 priority in every food and beverage processing operation is hygiene, but all too often, focus is on the latest process equipment and on technical developments that can improve efficiency and safety.

Although these things are essential, this distraction can cause some of the more basis hygiene requirements to be overlooked, in particular the maintenance of the drainage.

#Drains are a breeding ground for pathogenic and non-pathogenic micro-organisms. These typically occur either as free form where microbes float in the drain water, or are embedded as biofilm. In each case they create the potential for transferring pathogens, including listeria monocytogenes from the drain to food products. However by establishing an efficient maintenance routine, maintenance engineers can minimise and control the risk of contamination.

January 20th, 2020

Beginning January 1st 2020, new regulations for discharging wastewater from septic tanks have now come into force, householders and businesses that fail to take notice, risk heavy financial penalties or even criminal prosection.

The new regulations called General Binding Rules:Small sewage Discharge to the Ground, have not allowed wastewater from a standard septic tank to be discharged directly into water courses, although approved in 2015, The Environmental Agency gave until the beginning of 2020 for homeowners and businesses to upgrade their septic tanks. These changes apply to thousands of properties with off-line wastewater systems. Many will have already took the necessary steps to ensure that they are in line with new regulations.

If you want to find out more regarding the new regulations contact us on #01514951929 or contact The Environmental Agency.

Root infestation

November 25th, 2019

Root infestation and subsequent blocked drains are a common problem on drains near to planted areas. Roots infiltrate drains either through defective pipe joints or cracks, fractures and holes in the pipework. If the pipework is not badly damaged, roots can often be removed using specialist root cutting equipment or high pressure jetting using a specialist root cutting jet head.

If the root infestation is extensive and damage to the pipework is great, the appropriate solution to this would be to line the drain or carry out an excavation and install new pipework. Here at John Wall Drainage Service our operators can advise on the correct action needed.
