Gutter Cleaning

July 8th, 2019

Let’s be honest – the topic of #gutter cleaning is far from being a fascinating subject. Most people would not even think about looking after their gutter system until they stop working properly.

The truth is, #gutters on your home or business serve a critical service.

Clogged gutters are the number one cause of basement water problems in your home or business.  #Roof water overflows and accumulates around the foundation.  If this happens, basement leaks may be moments away and excess water against the foundation can weaken the footings and lead to cracks, something you NEVER want to happen.

#Cesspit Maintenance

June 17th, 2019

Maintaining your #cesspit is essential, not just for your household but for your local council authority too.

A common problem with#cesspits is overflowing, which can cause issues regarding cracked walls and punctures, which may lead to external leaks. Unlike #septic tanks, a #cesspit has no rudimentary treatment system, which means that whatever goes in must come out. under the public health act and water resources act your local council authority has a duty to ensure your #cesspit is in good working order, routine inspections are commonplace throughout the UK.

Do’s and Do not’s regarding cesspit maintenance

Never lift the lid of your #cesspit to check levels, inside there are a whole lot of nasty’s, make sure you have an alarm fitted within your pit.

Cesspits are often located in areas where other #sewage solutions are just not practical. Make sure your cesspit is located at least 15 metres away from any outbuilding and not less than 10 metres from any #watercourse.

Do not place heavy objects above #manhole covers.

Do not drive over any cesspit covers, especially old brick-built pits.

Here at #John Wall Drainage Service Limited we can provide you with a waste removal service, with all duty of care documentation provided. For your FREE quotation contact our Sales Team on 0151 495 1929.

School Drainage Maintenance

June 10th, 2019

Playgrounds, car parks and large roof areas have to deal with large volumes of rain water often in a short space of time, therefore if gullies, road gullies and linear channel drains are not maintained and cleaned, the water run off cannot make it into the below ground drainage system and you get localised flooding. A natural build up of silt and debris over time will cause blockages in grids and gullies situated in playgrounds, however, aluminium cans, crisp packets, plastic bottles and tennis balls are also common place, the silt from large hard standing can also build up with the below ground drainage system leading to restricted flow. Here at John Wall Drainage Service Limited we can arrange a planned preventative maintenance schedule, where we can come and clean the drainage for you once or twice a year (depending on the size of the School), remove all the debris from the drainage and the high pressure water the drainage to ensure it is all running clear and free. For further information please contact us on 0151 495 1929.

New Septic Tank Regulations Under The General Binding Rules

May 17th, 2019

New septic tank rules came into force on 1 January 2015. If your septic tank system was installed and in use before 31 December 2014, it is classed as an ‘existing discharge’. If it was installed and in use after that date, it is classed as a ‘new discharge’

Rules for both existing and new septic tank discharges in England.

Septic tanks settle the solids in the sewage ad then discharge the liquid septic effluent to ground via a correctly designed and constructed drainage field – not a soakaway pit, soakaway crates, tunnels of ezy drain. These are not allowed for sewage effluent dispersal.

They cannot discharge into ditches, streams, rivers, surface water drains or any other type of watercourse. Under the new Environment Agency General BindingRules, if you have a septic tank that discharges directly to a surface water (ditch, stream,river etc) you must replace or upgrade your septic tank treament system to a full sewage treatment plant by 1 January 2020 or when you sell your property, if it is before this date. All septic tanks that currently ultimately discharge into watercourses will have to be either;

Replaced using a sewage treatment plant with full BS EN 12566-3 Certification instead or the discharge to the watercourse stopped and diverted to a drainfield, designed and constructed to the current British Standard BS6297 2007.

Listeria control

May 7th, 2019

Drains

If Listeria is present in your food production facility, it will most likely be found in your drains. The reason for this is that drains act as a collection points for most of the Listeria-contaminated water on site, and then provide the nutrients and moisture required for the Listeria to grow.

Even though cleaning drains is an unpleasant and complex task, it is critical for Listeria control. Dirty drains can be a source of Listeria contamination, and flooded drains can spread listeria via pools of contaminated water on the floor. Drains should (if possible) only be cleaned during production downtime, and you’ll need to give aerosols time to settle before rinsing and disinfecting your food contact surfaces. Root removal

April 29th, 2019

Roots are always searching for water, oxygen and nutrients. As pipes, especially drainage systems contain plenty of these things, roots will readily infiltrate the drains where possible. Where a root system has started to grow inside a pipe there is a chance that debris such as tissue paper, fats etc. can become stuck and cause the pipe to flow slower.  Using our specialist root cutting equipment we are able to remove these roots to prevent further blockages, to find out more information on our root removal service please contact us on 0151 495 1929.

Whatever your problem, John Wall Drainage Service Ltd has the solution.
